Words from the Chairman and Treasurer who attended last weeks Stirling Albion Supportres Trust AGM
"We were pleasantly surprised and pleased to be invited
to the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust AGM on Thursday 31st March where
we were asked to speak about `Shire supporters experiences over the past
few years. We found some interesting similarities and differences between
our 2 trusts. Similarities - there are always a small group of people
who are commited enough to actually make things happen, we both have
issues with the people who run our clubs, we are both worried about the
future of our clubs and we both have important anniversaries next season
(60th and 125th). Differences - their trust has been around for a little
longer and has organised several events to raise money, they have been
helping their club in small ways eg programmes, match sponsorship, they
have not yet felt it neccesary to publicly criticise or to protest
against their club, they are more open with trust committee meetings
and can allow ordinary members to attend them. This was a great opportunity
for us to look at a similar group and learn things from them and for
them to do the same with us, we view other local supporters trusts as
brother organisations and think there is much to be gained by contact
and an exchange of ideas with them . As a result of this we will now
consider inviting local trusts to attend a shiretrust meeting."
Outcomes from last weeks committee meeting.
1. (and no surprise here) the committee members have decided
to call themselves the shiretrust committee. (Politburo must have been
rejected quite late)
2. Options are being considered on who might be co-opted on to the committee.
(ie they haven't decided who to ask yet, or won't release names in case they
turn down the opportunity)
3. shiretrust will remain a under the umbrella of Supporters Direct and will
pay the £50 annual fee (too early to form a break away group yet?) and
rep(s) will attend the Supporters Direct AGM in Stirling on 17th April
4. Tadek Kopsyzwa will be shiretust's media spokes person (a safe choice given
that he works both on local radio and the Falkirk Herald)
5. A second newsletter will be issued to members soon
6. The committee is grateful for all the ideas that have been put forward on
things that shiretrust should get engaged in and are working on a range of
these
7.One idea that willbe progressed is the running of a Quiz night. To be on
a larger scale than the recent supporters club one.
8. shiretrust will not proceed with the sponsorship of a zebra (perhaps because
the zebra is a striped and not a hooped animal)
Please note that all comments in brackets are not the words of the committee, just some poetic licence.
One idea is to do up the Firs Street Entrance to the ground. This wouldn't cost much money and would make an obvious difference to all visiting fans.
Another idea is to do something at the player entrance.
Keep the ideas coming.
